Midnight, Staring Up at the Sky

It’s Saturday. Under a thick moonless sky, we lie together in the dark with a second bottle of wine we decided to open anyway, realizing we can watch the Perseids streak sparingly across the night. The air carries warm golden resin notes that slowly deepen into something even warmer — the faint trace of skin that’s spent the day in the sun carrying spicy, musky, and quietly intimate scent.
